Iyabo Obasanjo Slams Ogun APC Guber Candidate Yayi Over Integrity - "Yayi is a Liar"

The political landscape in Ogun State has been thrown into fresh turmoil as Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo launched a blistering attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as a "liar" devoid of political integrity.

The fiery exchange exposes deep-seated cracks within the state's political structure and highlights the dramatic fallout surrounding Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo’s high-profile defection.

The heart of the dispute traces back to closed-door negotiations before Obasanjo-Bello exited the ruling party. Her political camp laid out three distinct demands to Adeola, firstly the Ogun Central Senate ticket, A financial reimbursement for campaign expenses shouldered by her grassroots supporters, Structural inclusion for her loyalists within his campaign machinery. 

Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo claimed that instead of maintaining open communication or negotiating transparently, Adeola went completely silent, only to reach out with financial inducements after she had already walked away from the APC.

"Instead, he did nothing and stopped communicating with me until after I had left the APC, when he started calling and even offered me money. If asking for a refund was insulting, why offer me money to stay?" she stated, clarifying that the demands originated from her wider support base rather than personal ambition.

Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo’s romance with the ruling party proved short-lived. Having registered at Ward 11, Ibogun, in the Ifo Local Government Area this past January to signal her return to domestic politics, she threw in the towel by May. She blamed her departure on persistent marginalization, disrespect, and poor administrative treatment by the party's leadership.

She has since pitched her tent with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), securing the party's ticket to run for the Ogun Central Senatorial District seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Beyond personal grievances, Iyabo Obasanjo took aim at the internal party mechanisms that produced Adeola as the APC flagbearer, arguing that the consensus arrangement violated established guidelines. Although she initially expressed willingness to back a genuine consensus process, she claimed she was completely sidelined and kept in the dark before the official unveiling.

To compound matters, members of her loyal support base faced physical  barriers, exclusion, and deliberate intimidation at the venue where the candidate was presented.
